PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents,

It has been a rigorous month since the hurricane. The students are working hard. Our 1st nine week grading period is over and report cards will be going home on 11/04/08. I am hoping to see many students on the honor roll this semester. We are also trying to get our National Junior Honor Society up and running. We recently renewed our membership and will be forming the committee.

THANK YOU! The school made over $200.00 at Chuck E Cheese on our fundraising night. According to Brenda and Alma, this was the most successful one yet! Thank you again for coming out to support our school. Also, thank you to those of you who attended Parent Power Hour. I believe that the session went well and I am looking forward to having another one in December.

CURRICULUM:
* The teachers recently attended the teacher training session for our new math program "Every Day Counts". They will begin implementing the program November 1st.

* We also finished our benchmark exams. I will be sharing the results with you on the evening of November the 6th at the PTO meeting.

* The 8th grade ARCO High School Entrance Exam practice books are in. We will begin formulating tutorials after school shortly.

* Ms. McClane's students finished writing an essay for a contest entitled "Why Do We Need to Celebrate Veterans Day". Many essays are very moving. I am hoping to have a few of them read to the general audience after the mass on Veterans Day.

* Students 1st grade thru 8th grade will be voting in a school wide election. The election is sponsored by Studies Weekly. We will be participating in this election process with thousands of other schools across the nation.

* Ms. Kruse will be participating in the Voyager Program sponsored by NASA and will be implementing its curriculum in her science classes.

* We have received a grant in the amount of $500.00 to assist our students in creating and implementing a service project. This grant came from the Meadows Foundation.

SPORTS: The volleyball and soccer season have ended. Both teams went to the play-offs. We are very proud of our students for representing us well. Basketball season is underway. Please speak to Coach Stubbs and/or Gabriel Morin for more information.

MISC: Please remember to come and support the church and school at our annual Bazaar on November 9th. Please turn in all Bazaar ticket money by Wednesday November the 5th. I am looking forward to attending my first Bazaar here at St. Augustine and hope to see each and every one of you out there! Be on the lookout for Worlds Finest Chocolate fundraising information.

God Bless,
Rose Garcia Filteau
